Secret Blade Love Knife
The historic "secret blade" love knife has a fixed sharp blade with perforated design work, hidden by an outer legal blade in c70 steel. The handle is finely handcrafted with buffalo horn and silver and brass trimmings.
A pledge of love from the past
In some areas of central and southern Italy, it was common to give knives as an engagement or wedding gift, the knife's role being to seal the bond of love.There was a strong identification between men and knives: the lover who gave his woman such a gift was symbolically offering himself, while such a gift given to a man could be interpreted as a virile exhortation to manliness. Originally from Sparanise in the province of Caserta, the origins of the secret-blade knife can be traced back with certainty thanks to inscriptions on the blades: one bears the name of the town in Campania, the other the cry of revenge against a love rival "Guardami e trema" ('Look at me and shake in fear').This knife embodies people's resourceful ingenuity in evading those laws and regulations that outlawed the carrying of weapons. In many cases, the laws would differ from place to place: the provisions of the time allowed some models to be carried freely, while others were banned altogether. On the surface, this looks like a simple blunt folding knife that could almost pass as a basic implement, but in fact, it comprises a sheath perfectly fitted to the hidden, thin and razor-sharp forbidden blade.
