Historic Calabrese Lama Mozza Knife
The handle of the historic Calabrese Lama Mozza sheepsfoot blade knife is made of horn, usually buffalo horn, with hand-filed decorated scales. The handle butt is fashioned in brass or nickel silver and houses the blade tip. The blade is in brushed c70 steel.
The classic knife of Calabrian tradition
This is a historic folding knife with a "sheepsfoot" or "mozza" blade dating back to the mid-19th century. The blade has the legendary three ratchet notches typical of Roman-style knives that engage with the spring housed in the back of the handle. The historic Calabrese Lama Mozza knife has no precise function; they were probably intended as part of a woman's trousseau. The main production centre, and perhaps the only one, was located in the area comprising the neighbouring districts of Sersale and Andali, near Catanzaro.
