Historic Calabrese Torciglione Knife
The Calabrese Torciglione folding knife has a buffalo horn handle, fashioned in a spiral design and adorned with miniature silver bolts. The brushed steel blade is pointed, and a decoration motif is engraved in the centre.
The Calabrian Torciglione knife
The typical knives of Calabria are so diverse in shape that we can assume that the historic Calabrian knife produced in Scarperia has been profoundly elaborated by local craftsmen, who have drawn on their own repertoire. The Calabrese Torciglione knife is a replica of an original springless model from the 19th century. The handle is in horn, with a spiral decoration and adorned with silver bolts. The blade is pointed, and a decoration motif is engraved in the centre. The function of these particular knives is not clear; they were probably intended as part of a woman's trousseau. The main production centre, and perhaps the only one, was located in the area comprising the neighbouring districts of Sersale and Andali, near Catanzaro.
