Maresciall Regional Knife
The Maresciall folding knife is made with a fine ox horn handle; the blade is in brushed 420c stainless steel, and it is fitted with a traditional simple spring closing mechanism.
The knife of Milan's criminal gangs
The origin of the Maresciall knife is still very uncertain, but it seems that at some point, Scarperia began production of this folding knife inspired by the shapes of other models that were produced in Maniago and Frosolone. In fact, both of these knife-making districts produced similar models which were both called 'zuava knives' but which have no connection with the one made in Scarperia. Probably, the inclusion of these two models in Scarperia's production reduced the differences between the respective blades, while the size of the handles was reduced to a minimum to simplify the amount of work. Hence, the development of the elegant and unmistakable Maresciall, which is very similar to its predecessors. Scarperia knifemakers sold this model extensively in northern Italy, especially in Lombardy, where it soon became popular with Milano's gangland criminals and became the symbol of the city's underworld. Sinister and ruthless, it was the inseparable friend of the lawless, who named it after the three trim lines (recalling the military rank of marshal) file-engraved on both tang bolsters.
