Tre Pianelle Regional Knife
The Tre Pianelle folding knife is made from a single block of fine ox horn and has a straight and slender shape. The Damasteel stainless steel blade is 3 mm thick and 9.5 cm long and is extremely sharp. The bolster bears an engraving of a St. Andrew's cross, while a pair of silver discs known "ferrules" mark the termination of the ox horn handle, closing both sides of the rear handle quillon.
Folding stiletto knife with three planes applied to each blade face
The earliest reliable references to this knife date back to a few illustrated plates from the second half of the 19th century, but in all probability, it is derived from models already in use before then. The Tre Pianelle knife is a typical Scarperia model and its name derives from the three planes applied to each blade face. In the past, it was more commonly called a "Stile" knife or "Stiletto", which suggested a decidedly offensive purpose, and the distant memory of its use as a weapon cloaks this model with a somewhat sinister allure.
