Vernante Regional Knife
The Vernante folding knife's handle is made from a single piece of fine ox horn, the 8 cm brushed steel blade is 3 mm thick and the closure is not spring-assisted.
A historic Piedmont knife
This regional knife takes its name from the town of origin "Vernante", a small Piedmont town in the province of Cuneo. Tools were already being produced here in 1500, but it was not until the first half of the 19th century that craftsmen started making this knife. In dialect, Vernantin was the knife of shepherds, farmers and vine-dressers. It was widespread throughout the area and later in the rest of the peninsula, so much so that there were more than twenty smiths making it in the village. Its distinctive feature is the blade with a rear projection that ends in a button-like expansion which, when the knife is open, rests against the back of the handle to arrest the blade's opening movement. It is an ancient system, quite widespread in past centuries to make simple springless knives, but today it has almost completely disappeared.
