Historic Sicilian Saraga Knife
The Saraga Sicilian folding knife is made with c70 steel and is fitted with an ox horn handle. The slender and elongated blade is brush-finished and has no lock.
The Sicilian fishermen's knife
This is a typical Sicilian folding knife and its origins and purpose are still not very clear. Some studies indicate that it is a typical model of the Palermo area, while others speak of a typical specimen associated with the territory between Agrigento and Gela. Its use is also uncertain, and the theory that it was used by fishermen seems unlikely, but given its very fine thickness and ease of concealment, it was more likely used as a defensive weapon. This is a simple spring-loaded lined knife with horn scales, iron blade bolsters and butt quillons in the shape of a fish's tail, the "saraga" or sargon fish, hence its name. It is a light and slender historic knife, the blade tip is purposely set beyond the spine to prevent it from closing when delivering sharp forward thrusts. The blade remains well outside the line of the handle (only the tip is necessarily covered) so that it can be opened with two fingers and the knife is ready for use.
